Find out what your route requires
Ask the recruiting hospital, private employer or the Ministry of Health whether your route includes a written exam, an interview or both, and what it covers. Do this first, because it decides how much of your time goes to MCQs and how much to interview practice.
Topics to prioritise
- Clinically important interactions (CYP enzymes, QT prolongation, bleeding risk).
- Common chronic diseases and their first-line treatments.
- Antimicrobial choice and adverse effects.
- Calculations and pharmacokinetics.
- Hospital pharmacy: sterile preparation, storage and distribution.
Preparing for the interview
- Be ready to explain a recent intervention you made and why.
- Practise counselling a patient on an inhaler, insulin pen or anticoagulant.
- Know how you would handle a prescribing error or an adverse drug reaction.
