PPSC Pharmacist Test Preparation

Practise the pharmacy subjects PPSC pharmacist tests draw on, rehearse under a timer, and follow a study plan built for Punjab Public Service Commission recruitment.

Exam overview and eligibility

The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) recruits pharmacists for Punjab government departments, most often for BS-17 posts in the provincial health departments. Selection normally consists of a written objective test followed by an interview, with final merit drawn from both.

The written test is MCQ-based and samples widely across the Pharm-D curriculum: pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy, clinical and hospital pharmacy, and pharmacy law. Every post is advertised separately, so the advertisement and the syllabus PPSC publishes with it are the final word on the pattern, marks and any negative marking.

Because the test is broad, candidates rarely fail on one hard topic. They lose marks across many medium ones they half-remember. Wide, regular MCQ practice with honest review of mistakes is what closes that gap.

Who can sit PPSC Pharmacist

  • A Pharm-D (or a B.Pharm where the advertisement still accepts it) from a university recognised by HEC.
  • Current registration with the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan.
  • Age limit, domicile, quota and any experience are set in each advertisement; relaxations follow government rules.
  • Apply online through the commission or testing agency named in the advertisement, before its closing date.

The official advertisement for your post is the final word on eligibility; check it before you apply.

Preparation tips and strategies

A step-by-step plan for PPSC Pharmacist, from first revision to the last mock test.

  1. 1

    Start from the advertisement

Download the advertisement and syllabus for your post. Note the number of questions, time, any negative marking and whether general sections are included. Plan against that document, not against last year's rumours.

  2. 2

Rank subjects by weight and weakness

Take one short mixed test on PharmaPrep to get a baseline. Put subjects that are both heavily tested and low-accuracy at the top of your list.

  3. 3

    Two focus subjects a week

Work through two subjects each week with 30–40 MCQs a day, reading every explanation you get wrong. Keep a notebook of facts you missed twice.

  4. 4

One full timed paper every week

PharmaPrep's PPSC practice paper uses 100 questions in 90 minutes to build pace. Sit it without notes, then review the whole paper, not only the wrong answers.

  5. 5

    Cover everything the advertisement lists

If the syllabus includes general knowledge, English or Pakistan studies, schedule separate time for them. PharmaPrep covers the pharmacy portion of the test.

Sample PPSC Pharmacist MCQs

Try a few original practice questions, then continue in the full question bank.

  1. 1Which drug is the antidote of choice for paracetamol overdose?

    • ANaloxone
    • BN-acetylcysteine
    • CFlumazenil
    • DAtropine
    Show answer and explanation

    Answer: B. N-acetylcysteine

N-acetylcysteine replenishes glutathione, which detoxifies NAPQI, the toxic metabolite of paracetamol. Naloxone reverses opioids and flumazenil reverses benzodiazepines.

  2. 2In ABC analysis of hospital inventory, 'A' category items are those that:

    • AAccount for the largest share of annual consumption value
    • BAre dispensed most frequently
    • CAre vital for saving life
    • DHave the longest shelf life
    Show answer and explanation

Answer: A. Account for the largest share of annual consumption value

ABC analysis ranks items by annual consumption value: a small proportion of items (A) accounts for most of the expenditure and deserves the tightest control. Classifying items as vital, essential or desirable is VED analysis.

  3. 3Warfarin produces its anticoagulant effect by:

    • AInhibiting vitamin K epoxide reductase
    • BActivating antithrombin III
    • CDirectly inhibiting thrombin
    • DIrreversibly inhibiting platelet COX-1
    Show answer and explanation

Answer: A. Inhibiting vitamin K epoxide reductase

Warfarin inhibits vitamin K epoxide reductase, so reduced vitamin K is not regenerated and clotting factors II, VII, IX and X are not carboxylated. Heparin acts through antithrombin III and aspirin inhibits platelet COX-1.
